Allah Yar: symbol of bravery and honesty

The Courage and Integrity of Allah Yar: A Tale of Sacrifice and Honesty

 (1980s)

In the year 1965, Allah Yar held a respected position as a teacher in the only primary school in his village. Among his two colleagues, Allah Yar stood out for his exceptional dedication and integrity. He would arrive at the school before time and stay late, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his profession. His remarkable qualities earned him a well-deserved reputation and respect in the community.

During that time, the absence of banks in the area led the Department of Education to designate certain schools, including Allah Yar's, as "Pay Centers." These centers facilitated the withdrawal of salaries for teachers in the region. Allah Yar was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the Pay Center. Since the nearest bank was located approximately 60 kilometers away in the city, he would withdraw the salaries from there. However, due to the lack of banks in the villages, Allah Yar had to keep a significant amount of money at his home overnight until he distributed the salaries to the teachers the following day.

One scorching summer day, Allah Yar returned from the city bank with the teachers' salaries. Concerned about the security of the money, he decided to keep it safe by sleeping in the same room as his wife and locking the door for the night. His elderly father slept outside, just in front of their room. Unbeknownst to them, danger lurked that night as a dacoit scaled the walls of their house.

The intruder seized Allah Yar's father and coerced him into calling his son, thereby facilitating their access to Allah Yar. When Allah Yar heard his father's call, he initially believed that his father was unwell and promptly opened the door. However, he quickly realized that something was amiss. Acting swiftly, he attempted to close the door and called upon his wife, Basherran, for assistance. Together, they managed to close the door as the dacoits persistently attempted to force their way in. Frustrated, the robbers resorted to gunfire, tragically claiming Basherran's life. The sound of gunshots alerted the villagers, prompting them to rush to their aid. Unfortunately, the robbers had already fled the scene.

In a heart-wrenching sacrifice, Allah Yar had lost his beloved wife but managed to safeguard the salaries of his fellow teachers. When the police arrived, instead of pursuing the robbers, they proposed a deceptive plan to Allah Yar. They suggested that if he were to mention in the First Information Report (FIR) that the robbers had taken the money, it could be equally distributed between him and the police. However, Allah Yar firmly refused, understanding the weight of honesty and integrity. He could not bring himself to tell a lie.

Disturbingly, justice eluded them as the dacoit, Dina, remained unpunished, having manipulated the situation to pressure Allah Yar into a compromise. Realizing that the state was aligning itself with the criminal, Allah Yar considered it a stroke of luck to have survived and chose to compromise. It is astonishing to note that Dina continued to terrorize the area, aided by the state. Even in the face of such adversity, Allah Yar's unwavering commitment to truth and justice prevailed.

In 1989, news of the incident reached the attention of General Zia-ul-Haq, the dictator of the time. Moved by Allah Yar's extraordinary bravery and integrity, General Zia-ul-Haq posthumously awarded Bashirran, Allah Yar's late wife, with the prestigious "Star of Courage."

Today, we pay tribute to Allah Yar, a man of immense courage and unwavering honesty. His story serves as a reminder of the values that should be upheld in society.

Allah Yar's selfless act of sacrificing his wife's life to protect the teachers' salaries showcased his exceptional bravery. Despite the tragic loss he endured, his commitment to his fellow teachers and his sense of responsibility remained unwavering. His actions exemplify the true essence of a hero, someone who puts the welfare of others above their own.

The fact that the police suggested a dishonest path to Allah Yar highlights the prevailing corruption and moral decay within the system. Instead of seeking justice and apprehending the culprits, they were willing to compromise their integrity for personal gain. However, Allah Yar's refusal to succumb to dishonesty demonstrates the strength of character that can withstand even the most challenging circumstances.

The case of Dina, the dacoit who escaped punishment and continued to terrorize the region, exposes a grave failure of the justice system. The collaboration between criminals and authorities reveals a deeply rooted issue that undermines the safety and security of the community. The fact that a criminal could operate with impunity, despite the knowledge of his heinous acts, reflects a disturbing lack of accountability.

Despite the hardships he faced and the compromised justice system, Allah Yar's commitment to truth and justice remained unshaken. His unwavering integrity serves as a shining example in a society where corruption and dishonesty often prevail. In the face of adversity, he clung to his principles, refusing to participate in the web of deceit that surrounded him.

The recognition bestowed upon Bashirran, Allah Yar's late wife, by General Zia-ul-Haq through the "Star of Courage" award highlights the importance of acknowledging acts of bravery and honesty. It is a reminder that even in a system plagued by corruption, there are individuals who embody the virtues that should be celebrated and upheld.

Allah Yar's story serves as an inspiration to all. It urges us to stand firm in the face of adversity, to uphold the values of honesty and integrity, and to prioritize the welfare of others above personal gain. It prompts us to question the prevailing systems and demand accountability from those entrusted with upholding justice.

It is through the courageous acts of individuals like Allah Yar that change can be sparked, and a brighter future can be realized. His story reminds us that even in the darkest times, there are those who are willing to make sacrifices for the greater good. Let us honor Allah Yar's memory by striving for a society built on truth, justice, and unwavering integrity
